The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is an American scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce that focuses on the conditions of the oceans, major waterways, and the atmosphere.
This position requires someone with 8 years of experience and a deep understanding of network specific issues within a cloud based environment from the external environment, through a Government TICAP, utilizing a cloud specific network service, to the network within a virtual environment (and between virtual environment). Intimate knowledge of key applications running on virtualized and non-virtualized platforms which support networking functions. Ability to manage public and private IP address space as defined by the project. Understand the full breadth of cloud networking services which can be utilized within a VPC. Understand the limitations of cloud services and where a virtualized application provides superior features and functionality to meet the project requirements. A key responsibility is to leverage current software and open source solutions to automate as many tasks as possible required to enable and manage the cloud solutions. Similarly, the position is responsible for making cloud-based solutions as transparent as possible. Cloud engineers are also responsible for creating and improving procedures and facilitating technical communication. One last duty that falls to the network engineer is researching and authoring the technical documentation that is essential to maintaining the system.
The roles and responsibilities of the Cloud Network Engineer include:
·        Provide deep baseline knowledge of network administration and software defined networking (SDN)
·        Secure network transmissions using but not limited to: IPSec, SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS
·        Perform server-to-Server authentication
·        Develop IPS/APT design
·        Support expansion of infrastructure as needed
·        Support and test generated products as needed
·        Support creation of backups/redundancy
·        Support Failover and Data saturation testing
·        Implement all networking security standards to the network equipment in accordance with the DOC, NOAA, and NESDIS                    security policies 
·        Provide applicable documentation for all network security rules, including, but not limited to: firewall, Intrusion Prevention                   Service (IPS), Unified Threat Management (UTM), router rules and router security filters, and IPSec Tunnels
·        Adhere to established change management process
·        Manage cloud servers, firewalls, and other network instances as needed
